Interests: Rachel O’Connell specializes in nineteenth- and early twentieth-century British literature and in queer, psychoanalytic, and gender theory. Her dissertation, “A house made without hands:” Absorption, Creativity, and Aestheticism at the Fin de Siecle,” excavates accounts of literary and artistic practice in the works of Aestheticism. The dissertation argues that Aestheticism, through its exploration of states of absorption, abstraction, and concentration, generates an ethics of creativity.
Education: Rachel has a BA in English Literature from Oxford University and MSc in Gender Studies from London School of Economics and Political Science.

Interests: I am a recent graduate of Stonehill College in Easton, Massachusetts where I studied English and International Studies. While at Stonehill, I did research on Irish politics and also developed an interest in postcolonial literature. In particular I enjoy the work of Buchi Emecheta, Jamaica Kincaid, and Salman Rushdie. My study abroad was at Oxford University, where I also connected with Shakespeare’s history plays, especially the Henry VI trilogy. I grew up in Wichita, Kansas but moved to New York in high school, and I now live on Long Island, in Rockville Centre.
